Going to The Keg is always memorable. I can’t think of a time that I’ve had a bad meal nor drink there. I’ve gone to the Keg in three different provinces in Canada and they’re always consistent in offering good food and great hospitality.

So when they approached to review their partnership with Live Nation Canada – The Keg Concert Series – of course I said yes.

The series included a contest for ten highly anticipated concerts across Canada with five VIP Ultimate Night Out packages.
Starting July 15 with Rush in Calgary, and finishing September 30 withPaul Brandt & Dean Brody in Edmonton. The five VIP packages included: two free tickets to a Keg Concert Series show, dinner and drinks for two at The Keg with transportation to the venue, hotel accommodations and an exclusive Live Nation Canada VIP concert experience.

We started our evening at The Keg Yaletown. Conveniently close to BC Place stadium.

I have my own routine when I dine at The Keg. First I order a cocktail. My choice is always a Grey Goose Martini – extra dirty, three olives. The Keg makes great martinis. Shaken at table side, my cocktail was ice cold and perfect.

You can’t go wrong with ordering The Keg Classic Dinner – You chose your cut, be Filet Mignon, Sirloin, Prime Rib or New York. The steak comes with a fresh salad, vegetables, your choice of accompaniment and fresh sourdough bread.

For my dinner I chose the New York steak, medium rare. Like I said before; I have a routine. How I savour that first bite. The meat is perfectly grilled, searing the steak’s juices. The cut is so tender, it doesn’t take much to cut it. The vegetables are perfectly seasoned and cooked. The mushrooms are buttery and the green beans still have the right amount of crisp. I chose the bake potato with everything on it and I mean everything: bacon bits, chives, sour cream, butter… the works. I use the sourdough bread to mop up all the juices. I’m in foodie heaven.

A steak this good deserves a great wine. My choice for the New York steak is always the D’Arenberg Australian Shiraz. I’ve been pairing these up FOR YEARS, and it’s always like love at first sight. The Keg has a well curated wine and cocktail list, so it is possible to find a new favourite. Me, I’m like a turtle when it comes to food. I mate for life. I couldn’t possible pair this steak with another wine, it would feel like cheating.

If you still have room for dessert, order the chocolate fudge brownie. It’s to die for. Or the Billy Miner Pie, or the cheesecake.

So, our dinner was pretty epic, which served us well since we were on our way to see an epic rock band: AC/DC.

That’s right – dinner at The Keg and AC/DC. Talk about the ultimate night out.

IMG_7370Our seats were great. The Keg spared no expense in showing us a good time.

The opening band was called Vintage Trouble and they were a mix of blues and rock n’roll. They kicked quite a bit of punch. With songs like “Run Like the River” – a bluesy mix of gospel and rock – they got the crowd nice and ready for the main course.

AC/DC didn’t disappoint. These guys can put any of the young rockers today to shame. Their presence was electric.

This was a memorable night – but then again, that’s The Keg’s business – to make memorable nights.
